I have suffered from migraines since I was 12. They are made durable by sumotriptans, a miracle drug, which I keep strapped to my body at all times in case. Sumotriptans are as essential to me as keys and an oystercard. However, you’ve got to take them at the early stage of the headache, otherwise they don’t work.
When a migraine attack kicks in, it’s game over for an entire day, sometimes two. It’s a constant cycle of nausea and pulsing headache. Like someones jabbing a fork into the back of your eyeball.
When they finally subside it’s like the devil is leaving your body, like you’ve been to war and come back all pale and traumatised. But then the plus side is you appreciate feeling normal again so much that you feel kind of euphoric.

Drawing landscape doesn’t come naturally to me, does it anyone? But Iceland consists of pretty much ONLY landscape. Big, swathes of Lord of the Rings style mountains and icy water. So I had little choice but to face my fear.
For semi-successful sketches you need perseverance, determination, a bold approach and a plentiful supply of watercolour pencils (and biscuits)…
Here are a few of the more successful ones from my trip to Iceland during the summer…
And finally an example of one of many disastrous attempts. But y’know, I quite like it when they go hideously wrong. It’s funny, and it sort of makes you more determined. I mean what the fucking fuck is this??
